Reviving the economic activities through the many ports.
Commercial ports are strategic links that are essential to the performance of national and international logistics chains on both the sea and land sides and contribute directly to the competitiveness of the provincial economy.
The Province has 3 active ports. The port of Matadi, the port of Boma, and the MGT port.

  1. The port of Matadi: The main and largest port in the Dr Congo, it is the most important import and export point in the country.
  2. Matadi Gateway Terminal « MGT »: A private partnership, MGT began initial operations with two berths for a total quay length of 350 m capable of handling vessels of 12,000 TEU and 350,000 tons dead weight.
  3. Ports of Boma: The second largest seaport in the DRC after that of Matadi, It has four berths with a total length of 685 m with a draught of about 11 m.
It has storage facilities for 4,500 UST of general cargo storage of 40,000 M2 and two warehouses for a maximum of 20,000 tons of covered conventional cargo with an annual capacity of about 6,600 TEU and 500,000 tons for general cargo.

Construction of a deep water port in Banana.

It was in 1972 that the Government of the Republic created the OEBK, the Organization for the Equipment of Banana-Kinshasa, an organization created for the development of a deep water port at Banana, a railway and a bridge over the river at Matadi.

The DRC, a giant of Central Africa with 2,0345,000 km2, has only 37 km of coastline on the Atlantic Ocean and two ports located in Boma and, further upstream, Matadi, which are dilapidated and often congested.

This forces it to use ports bordering Congo-Brazzaville and Tanzania, particularly for its exports and imports. This port will allow the Democratic Republic of Congo to connect to global trade routes and thus reduce its dependence on neighboring countries. This port infrastructure will therefore have the capacity to permanently accommodate all types of ships and provide the country with access to international markets.
